Security Center

You’re the first line of defense when it comes to protecting your accounts. We’re here to help and committed to keeping your personal information safe and secure.

Stay Safe, Stay Secure: Protect Your Money from Scammers

Fraudsters are constantly working to steal your personal information. They’ve increased their online tactics and are even targeting consumers’ physical debit cards using increasingly bold and sophisticated methods.
Our team puts measures in place to combat fraud and prevent financial loss/stress, but scammers are getting smarter. Stay one step ahead by being vigilant, protecting your accounts and verifying before you trust.

SAFEGUARD YOUR ACCOUNTS, CARDS AND PERSONAL INFORMATION

Your Card, Your Control: Never hand it over to anyone

Beware of scammers who may try to collect your debit card or personal information from your home. Andrews Federal will never send anyone to your home to retrieve your debit card or request sensitive information.

Keep your phone to yourself

Handing your phone to a stranger can lead to fraud, as scammers may steal personal data, access banking details, or install malicious apps. Even a brief moment is enough for identity theft or financial loss. To stay safe, avoid giving your phone to strangers—if someone needs help, make the call for them instead.

Andrews Federal employees will never ask for your PIN or password – Neither should anyone else

If someone contacts you and says they are from Andrews Federal, be suspicious. Andrews Federal will not contact you and ask you to reveal account information, password or PIN. If you receive a request of this nature, it is probably a scammer. End the conversation and report it immediately.

Don't text personal information

Never share personal information over the phone—use secure, verified channels instead. Even harmless details, like your birthdate, can be dangerous when combined with other data. Fraudsters gather small pieces of your information over time until they have enough to access your accounts.

Your Card, Your Control

When you schedule an appointment online through our website to request a call back at a specific time, you can trust that the call will come directly from Andrews Federal. If anything about a call or conversation seems suspicious, hang up and call back to our Member Service Center

Add your card to your digital wallet for safer shopping

Add your debit and credit cards to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet for an extra layer of protection. It keeps your card details hidden during transactions and helps prevent fraud.

Set up fraud alerts for added account protection

Get instant alerts for card transactions, deposits, checks, and more. Set them up in Digital Banking and receive updates by text, email, or secure message—so you're always the first to know.

Common types of fraud

Learn how to protect yourself

Cybercrime is more common than you might think. Every day, cybercriminals are finding new ways to attack accounts and steal sensitive personal information like account numbers, passwords, and more.

Social Engineering

Social engineering can include phishing, smishing or vishing methods to access your personal information.

  • Phishing: Using fake emails, websites or social media to trick you into giving away personal information like passwords or credit card numbers.
  • Smishing: Using text messages (SMS) to encourage you to share personal information, click malicious links or reveal sensitive information.
  • Vishing: Making phone calls pretending to be from a trusted person or organization as a way to steal your personal or financial details.

You can reduce the potential of being tricked by these scams by:

  • Never sharing personal or information with anyone.

  • Contacting your credit union to verify suspicious requests or report potential fraud.
  • Never clicking on links unless you know the sender AND are expecting the message.
  • Being alert and vigilant. Many scammers can sound very trustworthy and use a sense of urgency to create fear in their victims. If someone is pressuring you to share information or make a payment, step back from the situation and evaluate it, then report it.

Malware

Malware is short for “malicious software.” When malware is added to your system, it can corrupt your computer and steal your personally identifiable information. Examples of malware can include viruses, worms, Trojan viruses, spyware, adware, and ransomware.

  • Install and maintain antivirus software on your devices as an added layer of protection for your personal and account information.

Credential Stuffing

In credential stuffing, scammers use stolen usernames and passwords (usually collected from data breaches of other sites) and try them on different websites as a way to gain access. Their attempts can be successful if you use the same username and password across multiple sites.

Protect yourself from credential stuffing by using a variety of strong, unique, difficult to guess passwords, by using multi-factor authentication when possible, and by updating your passwords regularly.

Debit or Credit Card Fraud

Cybercriminals steal card numbers and information through many of the methods described above, as well as through scams where they take your physical card. To prevent unwanted transactions, protect your card information zealously and keep control of both your physical card and your digital accounts/access.

You can learn more about card fraud and card fraud prevention in this article.

Identity Theft

Identity theft occurs when fraudsters steal your personal information (social security number, name, address, bank details, etc.) and use it to commit fraud. They may use your information to open new credit cards or loans, and can cause damages that affect your credit for years to come.

You can protect yourself by:

  • Regularly monitoring your FICO score (accessible in Digital Banking)
  • Setting alerts on your account to ensure you are aware if unexpected transactions occur
  • Using strong, unique passwords and enabling multi-factor authentication
  • Being cautious of phishing emails, calls, or messages asking for personal data.
  • Reporting unexpected transactions or suspicious calls/messages to your financial institution as quickly as possible
