Our Story

  • Our story begins in 1948 when eight trailblazing people deposited $5
  • We extended our services to military and civilians serving overseas in 1968.
  • Over the next six decades, Andrews Federal steadily expanded in Maryland, DC, New Jersey, and Virginia, as well as in Belgium and The Netherlands.
  • Today we serve nearly 143,000 global members through an extensive branch and ATM network.

From Humble Roots to a Global Financial Institution

 
1948
Andrews Federal Credit Union was founded by 8 civilians from the Civilian Personnel Office on Andrews Air Force Field.
1955
Charter was amended to include military personnel and their families. Name changed to Andrews Air Force Base Credit Union. The name was subsequently changed to Andrews Federal Credit Union.
1968
Became one of only six credit unions approved to provide service to military and DOD civilians overseas. Our Wiesbaden Air Base branch opened the same year.
1979
Opened new headquarters at 5711 Allentown Road.
1991
Acquired McGuire Federal Credit Union in New Jersey.
1995
Schinnen Branch in The Netherlands opens.
1998
Opened first Belgium Branch in Chievres, Belgium
2005
Expanded footprint into Washington, DC with the opening of the Henson Ridge Branch.
2014
First Virginia Branch opens at Springfield Town Center in Springfield, VA. The branch was later relocated to Manchester Lakes,
2024
The expansion into southern Prince George's County was celebrated with the opening of the Upper Marlboro branch.

With over 75 years of service, Andrews Federal provides a full range of financial products and services to nearly 143,000 members worldwide. The credit union manages assets of over $2.5 billion and remains committed to service, safety, and soundness.
